Commercial Mortgage Loan Analyst

TITLE: Commercial Mortgage Loan Analyst

REPORTS TO: Manager, Commercial Mortgage Servicing

LOCATION: El Segundo



The Commercial Mortgage Loan Analyst performs financial, business and legal analysis of moderately-complex commercial real estate transactions to ensure compliance with the legal documents, insurance department regulations and company policy.  This position provides front line service and manages relationships with borrowers, attorneys, mortgage bankers, environmental engineers, appraisers, title officers, property managers, vendors, other commercial loan professionals and periodically assists the senior CML staff.




Monitors borrower’s compliance with loan documents and evaluates and processes commercial loan transactions in accordance with the loan documents on a variety of routine matters:

  • Monitor maturities
  • Process requests relating to loan payoffs, calculate prepayment premium, prepare payoff letter
  • Prepare lien release
  • Monthly payments
  • Rate adjustments
  • Lease review


Independently reviews system-generated reports to monitor loan delinquency, maturities with balloon payments, call dates, property taxes and insurance due dates. Corresponds with borrowers to investigate and obtain delinquent payments,  requests periodic updates on borrower’s progress in refinancing large balloon payments.   Performs escrow analysis to calculate and maintain sufficient escrow funds to pay real estate property taxes and insurance premiums  prior to due/delinquency  dates.   Analyzes certificates of property insurance to determine if insurance coverage is acceptable and complies with the term of the loan documents. Informs Manager, Commercial Loan Servicing of potential concerns; discusses recommendations/possible solutions with management.


Evaluates borrower request, obtains and analyzes mortgage related documents, to fully understand the reason for the request.



Evaluates borrower request for moderate to complex commercial loan transactions on variety of non-routine matters:


  • Transfer of ownership interest
  • Assumption of loan by a third party
  • Partial releases
  • Substitution of collateral
  • Condemnations
  • Easements
  • Secondary Financing


Assists Senior CML staff with reporting and analysis of the CML portfolio:


  • Quarterly portfolio performance by asset type, region, CM rating, etc.
  • Ad-hoc portfolio reports




  • A bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent work experience is required
  • A minimum of three to five years’ experience in a banking, residential or commercial mortgage lending environment
  • Previous commercial mortgage lending or commercial real estate experience
  • Both general and front-line knowledge of real estate finance, investments, economics, law, accounting and insurance principles
  • Excel proficiency
  • LMS/Precision LM experience a plus
